United We Stand

United We Stand, originally uploaded by Russian Banana.

I remember reading the following in one of the spirits blogs: “around 4th of July i drink american” So in this spirit (pun not intended) i made this excellent bourbon based cocktail: http://looka.gumbopages.com/2010/05/24/bellaspetto-cocktail/

2 ounces bourbon whiskey (Jim Bean as you can see)
About 20-24 blueberries
1/2 ounce Amaro (used Cia Ciara)
1 barspoon (tsp) cinnamon Syrup
Lemon peel for ganish

the only liberty i tool from the original recipe is not double straining: i kind of like blueberry bits around…

Couple of days ago i stopped by the Wine Library, the best wine store in NJ, to pick up my orders. The wine was packed into a pink box with a cute label. I liked it so much that created a pink cocktail on the theme.

0.5oz framboise
0.5oz creme de cacao
0.25oz campari

The Goldfinch

The Goldfinch, originally uploaded by Russian Banana.

The drink is to celebrate my small patch of wild flowers and beautiful timy birds, goldfinches, that seem so attracted by the yellow bloom.

.75oz Green Chartreuse (i used yellow)
.75oz Fresh Lemon Juice
Build, Shake and Strain.

Garnish with edible flower: its aroma adds a lot…

Crossover, originally uploaded by Russian Banana.

Tried to create some drink around Creme de Violette: something blue and delicate. Gin, CdV, Maraschino and lemon juice. Ended up with a decent libation but there was nothing blue about it – my mistake was to muddle a strawberry into it – along the way lost a delicate flavor of violettes…
